Orange is loud, obnoxious, and if you stare at it long enough, nauseating. It is neither red nor yellow, but a purgatory of confused coloration stuck in the process of mutation. There is nothing delightful or endearing about it. Heck, you can’t even rhyme any word with it! Orange signifies the beginning of Fall season, and when used alongside the color black…boo! Halloween.
According to Meaning of Color, “the color orange has very high visibility and is often used to gain attention. Too much orange causes self-centered and self-serving qualities, including pride, arrogance, and lack of care for others. Too little orange causes loss of motivation, lower self-esteem, and loneliness.” The brashness of orange masks the insecurity of orange.
Orange jumpsuit? State of incarceration.
Orange hair? State of confusion.
Orange face? State of a nation.
The world is no longer black and white with gray areas. Orange is the new normal. We live in a world where orange is rewarded. Substance is overrated. You just need to be louder than the competition, even if vacuous. Don’t be boring, controversy sells. The longer you stay in the news cycle, for reasons bad or ugly, the more “valued” your brand becomes. Orange has presented an alternative to reality, facts don’t matter.
Orange is loud, orange is crass.
Orange is everything that black is not.
Black is cool, and orange is not.
Orange is not the new black, orange only replaced the cool black.
